This French hood utilizes a Mansard taper with an ashlar stone pattern. The common tale is that Mansart, king Louis XV’s architect, Designed the tall sloping roofs to add a garret above the cornice, as French law decreed no Parisian building could have more than 4 floors, measured to the cornice. This wonderful design inn ovatio still draws your eye up, and is still used today by architects (see Denver’s Beauvallon Condos, 2009)
